Review #199: The Blue Between- Patricia Little

Title: The Blue Between
Author: Patricia Little
Pages: 278
Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
Summary: Sixteen-year-old Heather Lucas is the freak girl who got hit by lightning, and she has a scar on her palm to prove it. Since then, everything has gotten weird. Her mother left them, which makes no sense. Her Dad thinks she's a liar, because she won't explain why she keeps running away. The thing is, she can't explain it. She just disappears and then reappears miles away, with the scar on her palm tingling. In between, she drifts in a sparkling blue void outside of time and space, where indistinct forms of people float by, lost in the blue. Is she going crazy? Odd things are even happening at school. Why would the new boy, Alex, be interested in her? He shows her a paper he's written about a place called Alanar. The make-believe city from Mom's old bedtime stories? What does he know about her mother? Heather is determined to find out, especially after she sees the scar on his palm, identical to her own.
Review: I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I really thought that this premise sounded awesome and that this would be a good read. I found The blue Between to be a light and easy read, but with that being said I do wish that there was more depth to both the story and the characters. I was never really able to be 100% committed to the story! I just couldn't connect. I did like the originality of the story, I don't think I have read a book about someone being struck by lightening and gaining powers from it lol.
I really liked Heather as a character. I found that she embraced her new found powers quickly, but maybe a bit too quickly. I liked that despite her brothers rash decision that they got to go on this journey together. I was also glad that Heather and Alex found each other and that Alex is able to answer a lot of Heather's questions.
This was a pretty creative and original read and I will definitely be watching for the next instalment. I would recommend this novel to sci- fi/ paranormal lovers.
